Hospitality House - Cindy Conrad

The Hospitality House meeting this year will be on August 14th which is the 2nd Monday of August. This year's theme is "Wrapped in Warmth" and there is a flyer available to explain the suggested colors, sizes, use of fabric, etc. These quilts are due at the August Guild meeting which will be held on the 14th due to a conflict with the HH staff/meeting room at the Cheyenne Building on Oak Ridge Turnpike. Quilts will be judged and prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.  Are you ready?!

Block Drawing - Fat Quarter Exchange - Julie Niles

Julie announced the Block Drawing for May. It is called Positive Affect and should be made from reproduction 30's fabrics with a neutral (white or muslin) center block. It should measure 12-1/2" unfinished. It is from the American Patchwork & Quilting magazine, June 2017.

This block requires 4 - 5" squares, 4 - 3 1/2" x 5" rectangles and a creamy 3 1/2" x 5" center rectangle.  A handout was available for more detail. For every block you enter you will get to enter your name to win!  Will be fun to see who wins!

The Fat Quarter Exchange will be in June.  More on that at the May meeting.

Pillowcases for Children's Hospital - Lynda McLaren
Lynda showed us how to put a pillowcase together using the "burrito method". She reminded us to pick up fabric from the donation table and to contribute fabric as we can.  She will continue to have a table setup for this purpose. Although pillowcases are due in November, she will accept them anytime!

Someone also shared that there is a very good video demonstrating how to make the pillowcase on the Crafty Gemini web site. Someone else mentioned the Conquer Cancer website.

UFO's - Darlene Roby subbed for Allison Darken
15 members are participating with an average of 8 UFO's listed.  Email Allison with your list of UFO's at darkena@bellsouth.net.

"Bags for Beads of Courage" - Lin Stricker / Pat Lakers
Lin told us that 95 bags were delivered to Children's Hospital and she read a Thank You note from Children's Hospital. More labels have been ordered so we will have another opportunity to make bags for this project.  Thank you to Darlene Roby for donating fabric!

Lin is getting ready to move and in the process found a couple of antiques quilt tops that she gave away.  That caused some excitement!!!

Round Robin - Narda Hipsher
We had the 1st swap!  And will have 2 more swaps in June and August.

Other Announcements/Reminders
Nancy Rayside told of her concern for the lack of bedding for animals at the local shelter in Oak Ridge.  She shared some measurements for pads/bedding for the different size cages.  She encouraged us to consider making some to benefit our local animal shelters.
Workshop Announcements
Chenille Scarf - Julie Niles explained about the chenille scarf workshop. She is teaching a 2 hour class on June 10 at Connie Dean's office/sewing area.  A list has been circulated for signups. Please let Julie know if you are interested.  Julie says there are examples at Twisted Sisters Quilt Shop in Maryville

New Year's Star class to be taught by Anita Chaisty in June at the Civic Center.  A completed quilt was shown at the March and April meetings. Wanda Somers reminded everyone to sign up for the class!

The Guild will cover the cost of the class by paying the instructor but members will pay $12.00 per person and non-members will pay $15.00 as they register for the class.  The Guild will reimburse the members but will not reimburse non-members. This is being done to insure we have good participation to support the class.  Our June & July Guild meetings will be held at 7 p.m.  The time is noted in our new Guild membership books.

Program - Pin Money Sale. Everyone seemed to enjoy shopping and several left with some bargains. Thanks to all who participated. Be sure and give Karen Larabee 10% of what you earned in sales for the guild treasury.
